The Calgary Gators open up the 2010 AFL season on June 5 against their cross town rivals, the Calgary Wolfpack. The Gators faced the Wolfpack in the 2009 playoffs and fell short 19- 3. The game is scheduled for 6:00 PM at Shouldice Field.

The 2010 Gators are a much different looking team than the 2009 squad, starting with uniforms. The Gators will unveil their new look on June 5 against the Wolfpack. The Gator offense also boasts a new look with the addition of several key players that will help put more points on the board. The Gator D, known for being a hard nosed group also looks strong with new additions to go along with the return of several key players from the 2009 team.

The New Look Calgary Gators opened up the 2010 season Saturday night losing 41-19 to their cross town rival, Calgary Wolfpack. The Gators came out with a chip on their shoulder and jump to a 12-0 lead. The Gator defense kept the high powered Wolfpack offense off the scoreboard, OLB Brad Richmond and FS Scott Cowick both had interceptions to go along with a safety. The Wolfpack did not get a 1st down until late in the 2nd quarter.

Gator QB Dan (Striker) Strikaitis was solid in the opener throwing 2 touchdowns and leading the Gator offense on several long drives. Newcomer Mike Wasylyniuk was excellent in his Gator debut with 115 yards receiving and 1 TD. Mike also had a huge game on special teams with 111 return yards. K Ian Hewitt kicked a 40 yd field goal and displayed excellent accuracy when punting, pinning the Wolfpack deep several times.

The Wolfpack played a far better second half than the Gators.

At the conclusion of the game, Gator president Don Nelson presented Wolfpack President Jim Lightfoot with a donation of $600 for the Jeff Moodie Foundation from the Gators. The Gators wish Jeff the best of luck on his road to recovery.

The Gators host the Lloydminister Vandals on Saturday June 12 at 4pm at Shouldice park.
